The art of the small yes

Big decisions rarely announce themselves. They arrive in the small yeses we say without noticing.

There is a version of your life being shaped, quietly, by the invitations you accept.

Not the dramatic ones. The small ones. The coffee you agreed to. The morning walk you almost skipped. The message you almost didn't send.

We tend to overweight the loud decisions — the job change, the move, the ending — and underweight the accumulation of quiet ones. But most lives, on close inspection, are built out of the second kind.

Try this, this week. Notice a single small yes each day. Not to change it. Just to see it. The pattern that emerges will tell you more about the direction of your life than any five-year plan.
