What still belongs?

I've spent quite a bit of time recently looking at Your Life, Your Call. Not building something new or thinking about what else I could add, but actually looking at what is already there. What works, what doesn't, what feels natural, and what feels unnecessarily complicated. What still belongs. In business, we'd probably call that an audit. And it got me thinking about how rarely we do the same thing with our lives.
Taking stock
Businesses accumulate things. Processes, meetings, subscriptions, systems, and ways of doing things that made perfect sense when they were introduced. Then time passes. The business changes, but somehow many of those things remain.
I think our lives can be a bit like that too.
We accumulate routines, commitments, expectations, ambitions, and ways of spending our time. Some are important to us. Some may have been important once. And some are probably still there simply because we've never stopped to question them.
An audit doesn't have to mean throwing everything out and starting again. Sometimes it might remind us why something matters. Sometimes it might show us something we've neglected. And occasionally, it might give us permission to say, I don't think this belongs anymore.
Perhaps taking stock every now and again isn't such a bad thing. Not because our lives need constantly improving, but simply because they change.
And perhaps what belongs can change with them.
A question to sit with
What in my life still belongs, and what might I be carrying simply because it's always been there?
From the library
Sometimes moving forward isn't about getting things back to how they were. It might be about asking whether the old way still belongs.
In case you missed it
Before you go…
You don't have to change anything today. Perhaps just notice what's still there.
Until next Sunday,
Stefan
